Melanie Martinez tells the Dark Truth with her Song Mrs. Potato Head

The video for the song Mr. Potato Head by Melanie Martinez recently aired on YouTube. Though her audience is mostly teens and young adults, the message put out from this song and realistically graphic video is something we can all learn from.

The music video tells the story of a woman who’s plastic alterations are not enough to satisfy. It tackles the problem we have with media selling the “perfect” image of a woman, making them depressed and leaving them hating themselves because they can never live up to that ideal. It also depicts a woman succumbing to a man who suggests plastic surgery, but who in the end leaves her.

“Oh, Mrs. Potato Head, tell me, is it true that pain is beauty?
Does a new face come with a warranty?
Will a pretty face make it better?”

We cannot stress enough how much we believe that all women are beautiful as they are. This is a health and fitness community where we provide ways to exercise and eat to maintain a healthy lifestyle. This does not by any means mean we want you to alter yourselves. When trying to lose weight think for what reason you are doing it for. Do it for yourself, so you can lead a healthy life. NEVER STARVE YOURSELVES, OR INGEST DIET PILLS. You have to take care of your body so it can function the way it is supposed to. And do not ever change yourself to fit some crazy standard set by media, society, or men. If we were all the same, the world would not be a beautiful, vibrant, and diverse place.
