Top 5 Travel Destinations (The Fit Girl Edition)

Feeling the wanderlust?

Caught the travel bug and can’t seem to shake it off?

Well, there’s no point in fighting it: get out there and travel! Not only will doing so spice up the otherwise boring routine at home, but it will also open you up to different cultures through new sights and discoveries along the way. From the Americas to Europe to Asia, there are plenty of places that are worth seeing in one’s lifetime: for the culture, the history, and the memories that you make. Here are our personal picks for the top-five destinations to visit! Let’s get going!

Monterey, California, USA

Situated along the Pacific Coast in the middle of California, Monterey is the ideal place to go not just for the rugged coastline scenery, but also for the history. Such historical sites include Cannery Row, once a sardine-packing hub that is now a tourist center, with souvenir shops, restaurants, and other fun activities for visitors to do. The city itself is also a great access point to other nearby coastal places, including the famous Seventeen-Mile Drive in Carmel; it is also a good city to stop in for the night before continuing up north to places like San Francisco, or down south to Los Angeles (two-hour and a five-hour drives, respectively).

Paris, France

For city-goers who love the fast-paced lifestyle that cities have to offer, Paris is the perfect choice. The most-visited city in Europe, the famous “City of Lights” has everything that you can imagine in terms of “typical French” items: delectable pastry shops, gorgeous eighteenth-century architecture, and of course many opportunities for shopping (especially on the Champs Élysées). From the famous Eiffel Tower to the lovely scenes along the Seine, it is impossible to run out of things to do in Paris. Day trips to nearby places including Versailles and Giverny are very accessible, if you choose to see more of what the Paris region has to offer!

Cinque Terre, Italy

Just next door to France is none other than Italy itself. While it is not surprising that people visit places like Rome or Venice, what people don’t know is that there is much more to Italy than the Colosseum or gondola rides. A UNESCO Heritage Site, the Cinque Terre is made up of five different villages (situated within a large national park) along the west coast of Italy. The area offers stunning views of pastel-colored houses on cliffs, as well as hiking trails to each of the villages. If you’re feeling adventurous, literally, take a hike in the Cinque Terre!

Marrakech, Morocco

When people think of Africa, many envision the pyramids of Egypt or camel rides in the Sahara desert. However, they are not aware that places like Marrakech have a lot to offer as well. A walled city, it is home to a densely-packed old town filled with mosques and palaces. There are also lovely gardens including the Majorelle Garden, and afterwards can head over to souks (markets) where you can lose yourself in the multitude of jewelry, textiles, and food that are being sold. Just like Paris, Marrakech is definitely an urban, even cosmopolitan, city; there is always something to see while visiting there!

Chiang Mai, Thailand

Bangkok tends to be the first city that tourists imagine when they think of Thailand- what they don’t think of are the other places to see in the country, including Chiang Mai, just an hour’s flight away from the capital. Chiang Mai is known as the base for accessing the nature part of the region; if you enjoy backpacking through landscapes with rich vegetation (lots of green to see everywhere!), then Chiang Mai is your place! Visit in November and experience Loi Krathong, a lantern festival in which people cast krathong (floating lanterns) onto the river, which is a beautiful sight to see at night.

With all of that, enjoy your journey! Bon voyage!

  1. I want to travel all over the world, but since I am already in CA, I think Monterey is a good place to start. Morocco has always been in my dreams, but I didn’t think the hidden place are the most beautiful.
